HELICOPTER AND FIXED-WING EXPERIENCES
Getting to Sheldon Chalet is just the start of the adventure. The 45 minute exclusive ‘flightseeing’ helicopter ride from Talkeetna through Denali National Park, takes guests over lowland rivers, lakes and forests of the valley before crossing onto the winding Ruth Glacier, where the immensity of the mountains becomes clear. Passengers will get a birds’ eye view of the deeply-crevassed ice fields where the deepest shades of blue captivate you before flying to the south face of Denali and landing at the Sheldon Chalet. Upon arrival, guests are greeted by the welcoming staff with a sampler of fresh Alaskan seafood delicacies and champagne.
The fully curated adventure season offers the following aerial tours for an additional expense:
- Helicopter experience with lunch at a historic homestead including a dog sled ride
- Fixed-wing flight to a fishing lake with a picnic lunch of exceptional locally sourced cuisine
- Heli canyon flight to a remote hike on a breathtaking ridgeline with views of Denali
- Fixed-wing flight to an operating gold mine
- Helicopter excursion to a Mastodon bone yard or berry picking
- Outbound flightseeing tour to the Denali Base Camp for climbers and Mount Huntington, a striking ice and rock pyramid
ACTIVITIES ON DENALI’S RUTH GLACIER
While views of Denali’s Ruth Glacier are visible from Sheldon Chalet’s wrap-around panoramic windows, guests are invited to discover the beauty of the pristine glacier with an expert guided trek exploring the area around the Sheldon Nunatak. Thrill-seekers will love the multitude of options including expedition-style glacier treks with stunning vistas at each one, rappelling into a crevasse, skiing around the nunatak or carving turns while sledding on Denali.
ADVENTURE IN PLACE
Upon return from the day’s activities, dinner is served and the evening hours are free for guests to “adventure in place” at the Sheldon Chalet. All gourmet dinners are prepared by Sheldon Chalet’s chef and showcase the finest Alaskan sourced ingredients.
Choose from house beer or wine or select from a sommelier-designed wine, beer and fine spirits program at market price. Spend the evening reclining on the comfortable couches, enjoying a nightcap while stargazing on the observation decks, gathered around the fireplace for a history lesson or relaxing in the sauna to recharge from your day.
