Just around the corner from the iconic boulevard of Rodeo Drive and amongst the blooms of the Beverly Canon Gardens sits the majestic Maybourne Beverly Hills a unique respite within the show-stopping atmosphere of Los Angeles. Driving to the hotel was quite easy, and for those willing to untether from the responsibility of driving, this is a very walkable area with plenty of window shopping, cafes and cultural highlights for every age.
As we entered the hotel, there was a gorgeous table overflowing with elegant floral combinations of roses and a line-up of lobby attendants at the ready for everyone who approached. There were whispers from the guests trying to figure out who amongst the crowd was famous yet incognito; it was fun to think of who we might be rubbing elbows with during our stay. One of the agents assisted us in finding the spa by walking out from behind his desk and guiding us to the proper elevator. He swiped his all-access key card, pressed the proper buttons and then stepped back out of the elevator as he gave a knowing smile for us to enjoy our time at the spa.
The elevator doors opened to the spa reception desk with Megan and Jeffrey at welcoming attention. Once we were checked in as spa guests, Jeffrey, the assistant spa director, gave us a brief tour of the impressive fitness center, and we turned so we could see the sleek and polished retail boutique stocked with rare and coveted brands such as designer swimwear from Norma Kamali and EviDens skin care.
I was given easy instructions for my locker and Megan brought me a glass of champagne before my massage therapist, Theresa, collected me. She consulted with me before my treatment and was customizing my requests in her head as she stepped out of the room, but not before inviting me to slip onto the treatment table and under the softest and most “pillowy” duvet I have ever experienced on a massage table. Theresa’s hands were expertly placed and engaged throughout the massage and her pressure was consistently checked as she kinesthetically felt the nuanced messages that my muscles were sending.
I received the I Am De-stressed Massage, which delivered medium but firm pressure and a rhythmic flow. This allowed me to fall into a hypnotic, dreamlike state and I mentally tip-toed through the playful memories of the morning and afternoon I had already enjoyed. The blend of eucalyptus and bergamot aromatherapy filled my senses as Theresa held my heart chakra for some breathwork, and then the soothing ring of the sound bowls chimed to help bring me back to reality and signal that the treatment was complete.
After my treatment, Theresa made sure to invite me to stay for as long as I liked and to use all the amenities available, such as the gym, spa cuisine dining, pool, sauna, and steam room. They even provide disposable bathing suits for any guests that might need one. I enjoyed the female-only relaxation room whirlpool and sauna for a bit before joining my companion at the co-ed mineral immersion whirlpool with a glass of Pinot Noir. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day before catching the red-eye home.
