British Columbia’s Tigh-Na-Mara Resort on Vancouver Island has proudly unveiled its newly renovated Oceanview guest rooms, representing an $8.5 million investment to align with the quality of other recently renovated guest rooms. Known for its dedication to eco-friendly practices and a 4 Green Key certification, the resort ensured that the renovation adhered to the circular economy’s principles, aiming to reduce ecological impact and promote responsible tourism.
The updated Oceanview guest rooms offer air conditioning, ensuring guests’ comfort even when Salish Sea breezes are insufficient. The rooms boast porcelain countertops, locally crafted Live Edge Design log furniture, and inviting high-efficiency gas fireplaces. Each room offers picturesque views of the Salish Sea and distant islands, with many featuring full kitchens and unique tub/shower concepts in the bathrooms.
Tigh-Na-Mara Resort prioritized energy conservation through key card-activated lighting and fireplace controls. Recycling and compost facilities have been thoughtfully integrated into each room to encourage guests’ participation in green initiatives.
Beyond the guest rooms, the resort incorporates eco-friendly features, such as energy-efficient LED lights, low-flow plumbing fixtures, water-based paints, and energy-efficient gas fireplaces and boilers. The resort also employs electric vehicle charging stations and golf carts to navigate its expansive 22-acre property. Notably, Tigh-Na-Mara was the first on Vancouver Island to utilize renewable gas, receiving the Fortis BC award in 2016 for this groundbreaking initiative.
Paul Drummond, General Manager for Tigh-Na-Mara, says, “Tigh-Na-Mara was born of humble beginnings back in 1946 with a single tent on 11 acres, now transformed into today’s resort of 192 hand-crafted log guestrooms keeping the majority of the 22 acres of forested and oceanfront property intact. We are committed to our community and environment, and using sustainable practices is part of our culture here at the resort, from our guestrooms, the kitchen, laundry, and our Grotto Spa, to watering our plants using our wells. The future is bright, with exciting discussions on renovating the cottages next and a few other exciting developments at the Grotto Spa that will continue to enhance guest experiences.”
The acclaimed Studio AE Interior Design Inc., out of Lantzville, designed the project and skillfully executed by Nanoose-based TS Williams Construction. Tigh-Na-Mara Resort invites guests to indulge in the comfort of their newly renovated Oceanview guestrooms, all while knowing they are contributing to the preservation of our planet with an unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship.
